EXTRAORDINARY SHOOTING CASK.

Adelaide, February 2. This afternoon a serious shooting case took place at the Day Nursery in Gillies-street. Charles Lowenthal, whose wife was a nurse at the institution, went there and fired five shots from a revolver at his wife. The sixth would not go off. Three bullets struck the woman ; one in the back of her neck grazed the skin, another went through her stomach from the left side to the front, and the third entered her left hip. A male baby, three months old, named Hefternan, which Mrs. Lowenthal was carrying, was also shot. One bullet entered the child's left hip,and passed right through the lower portion of the body and came out at the right hip. Lowenthal was arrested on the spot by a constable who is living opposite. When charged with shooting with intent to murder he said nothing. Mrs. Lowenthal and the baby were taken to the Adelaide Hospital, where-the former underwent an operation, and a bullet was extracted from her stomach. The other bullet has not j'ct been found. To-night the woman was in a very low condition, and her depositions wore taken. The child is expected to recover.
