THE TOUTING NUISANCE.
Sir, would like through your valuable paper to call the attention of the Railway authorities to the system of touting for hotels which is carried on on some of the Government Railway lines, notably on the line from Auckland to Okoroire or Oxford, to the great annoyance of passengers. Having come to fair New Zealand for the benefit of my health, 1 was prepared for the tout reception I met with on the steamers' wharf; but sir, I was not prepared for the great annoyance I was subjected to at the railwaystation and on the train to Oxford, and I think it is high time that this state of affairs should be enquired into and put a stop to, so' that one could at least travel on the railwavs without being persecuted by this most objectionable class of individuals. Having, on the advice of a friend who had made the journey to Rotorua before me, decided to stay at the Oxford Hotel (which, by the way, I found quite equal to anv country hotel I had ever stayed at, and I have stayed at a good many), and go on next morning by Carter's coach, and although I stated to these torments that all my - arrangements were made, I was pestered to change my plans to Okoroire, until at last I lost my temper, and I am afraid I consigned my persecutors to a warmer and more distant spot. Trusting you will find space for this just and not too early complaint, i am, &c., A Poor Persecuted Tourist.
