SIR WILLIAM FITZHERBERT.

[BY TELEGRAPH.— SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT.] Wellington, Monday. . Sir William FitzHerbert's health is, I regret to say, in a most critical state; indeed, news arrived in town this evening that Sir William was sinking fast, and that the end might come any hour. His son-in-law, the Attorney-General, was summoned hurriedly to the "Hutt this afternoon to see him. Later. The latest news from the Hutt about Sir William Fitzherbert is that there seems to be a slight improvement in his condition, which, however, continues most critical. It is feared that this slight favourable change will prove to be of very brief duration.
