Mr. Ward has -eceived the reply of the Railway Commisioners to the request made to them by a deputation a week ago for the reduction jf way charges on frozen mutton in Southland. The Commissioners state that in the absence of any expression of opinion, favourable or otherwise, from the Legislature respcting the tariff, the Commissioners do i»t feel justified in making any material alteration in the rates.
