THE EARLY CLOSING MOVEMENT.
[BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION'.] Christchurch, Thursday. A public meeting, attended by about a thousand, and presided over by Bishop Julius, passed resolutions affirming the necessity for earlier closing of retail shops, that a change of market day to Friday would bo beneficial, and recommending New Zealand assistants' early closing protection by legislative enactment. The meeting was orderly and enthusiastic. Mr. C. P. Hulbert, on behalf of the Master Drapers' and Outfitters' Association, stated that it would bo almost impossible to close at six on Saturday ; but the masters would be willing to give a weekly half-holiday.
