YOUTHFUL LANGUAGE AND MANNERS.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—l think the language and deportment of the pupils of our public schools could be much improved by the teachers. School committees should weed out teachers whose influence and example is baneful. I have heard of a sixth standard teacher who tells his class to " shut up," to "hold their mouth," etc. What respect can growing boys and girls have to one using such expressions to them, which he would not dare to do were he not dressed with a brief authority. If the Churches were more Christian, and less sectarian, it would be possible to have a reading book compiled from Holy Scripture acceptable to !K) per cent, of the parents, a conscience clause could protect the tenth.—l am, etc., A Parent.
