EARLY CLOSING.

TO TIIK EDITOR. Silt, —" Christian" has written his most Christian letter on the above subject. While a Saturday half-holiday is desirable is it practical? If adopted would it not lessen city trade. It would tend to improve suburban trade—North Shore, Otahuliu, Onehunga, etc.—without a doubt. It would also be a boon to the smaller traders, for numbers of purcliaseis would omit buying before one o'clock, knowing that they could be supplied at some of the smaller shops until ten or clqvw o'clock. In the

summer could the meat and fish shops closa at ono ? Opinion appears to vary. To be a success it must be universal. Six o'clock all round on the first five days of the week is practicable, and should be adopted. A late Friday night is as objectionable as a late Saturday night. Why a late night at all ? Six o'clock the whole week should be free from valid objections, leaving the aristocratic firms the privilege of the Saturday half-holiday.—l am, &c. Sympathy.
