PROFESSOR ALDIS AND HIS NEIGHBOURS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sib,— Wednesday's Herald, under the heading "Truthfulness," Mr. W. S. Aldis insinuates that " to avoid giving offence certain of his neighbours signed a paper certifying that a certain lady was a fib and proper person to hold a license, and that this was done by persons having no knowledge of the applicant." Let me inform Mr. Aldis that the lady was known to certain persons who' signed, and that having held a license in the vicinity for some time, to the satisfaction of the authorities, she is entitled to hold one here if the residents wish it. It was open for Mr. Aldis to sign or refrain from signing, but it was outside his right to insult his neighbours by arrogantly assuming that he is the only honest and truthful individual, nob only in the district but in New Zealand.—l am t &c, James Moth.
