MR. CHRISTIE MURRAY'S NEW PLAY.
DRESS REHEARSAL LAST NIGHT. It has been already announced that Mr. D. Christie Murray, the famous novelist, had written a play for Mr. St. Maur and his company, unci last night it was rehearsed under the supervision of the dramatist himself. Mr. Christie Murray took a critical position in front of tlie dress circle, and was in evidence throughout, ready to check errors and give guidance. It is not ,at all required that we should anticipate the agreeable surprise which is to be sprung on the theatregoing public to-night, for it will be a surprise and a delight. The play is in three acts. It is sufficiently colonial to afford the introduction of several good scenes and nice situations, but the' main features are essentially English, while in the turnings of the tables opportunities are afforded for the introduction of individualities of the nicest character, and the Scotchman is by no means the least remarkable. The drama is replete with character and pathos, the situations are by no means strained, and the dialogue is smooth, euphonic, and natural. "The " Chums" will be launched on its voyage through the world to-night, and we wish it a prosperous and happy career, worthy of its author and the able hands in which its first production has been placed. _______________
