The Otago University Council have got out of the difficulty with regard to the SBarewood run and Maaterion reserve, /which have been rushed by prospectors, by cancelling the licences of the lessees over 2000 acres and giving them grazing rights. . It is not expected that the Poudrette Works at Avondale will be in operation before the early part of next month. The machinery is not all set up yet; and it is understood matters aro postponed till the season is more advanced, so that the {irepared material may be more readily dried. . The officers of joint stock companies and gold mining companies are required, by the loth of October next, to; furnish statements of property belonging to such companies to the Property Tax Department in Wellington, in accordance with the provisions of the Act.
