Patrick Coonkv. — Uudcr examination by the Ollicinl Assignee this debtor .stated that, lie started business at Gum Town, Mercury Bay, a« a storekeeper, gumbuyer, anil publican, about nix years ago, with £400 to tho good. For live years ho did a large business, with a turnover of something like 0,000 a year. In March, 1888, ho sold his iuborciSts in Gum Town for £1919 LS.s '2d, against which bo owed £1041 flu 9d on current account, and £858 Kis 8d on mortgage, leaving- a credit; balance of £415 Ms !)d. Subsequently ho took over tho Mercury Bay Hotel, having in addition to the balance mentioned book debts amounting to £2000 and a bank deposit of £260. The venture did not prove succe*dful, and supplies-were stopped. He tried to arrange a compromise of 5s in the £, which was refused, and a writ having boon issued against him his stock and furniture were sold by auction. He owea eight creditors £602 19s 2d, and his assets he estimates at £705 6a Bd. Ilia wife owns 72 acres of land at Gum Town, made over to her by tho debtor in December 1887. '

5 RiohakdCaMiAOHAK.—• Thie bankrupt was examined by tho QtiicialAissigueo yesterday, fio stated that he hud been carrying- on business as dairyman in Auckland for 23 years, and had alwaya paid his way until recently. In June last his landlady took possession of his place for arrears of rent alleged to be due, and judgment having beeu given against him he filed, not having the means to meet tho order. Ho estimated his indobtcdness, including £90 4s claimed for rent, at £103 4s, and his assets at £70. Tho furniture in his house belonged to his wife beforo marriage.
