G REAT FIRE IN AMERICA.
IMMENSE CONFLAGRATION IN WASHINGTON TERRITORY.
HAMAGE ESTIMATED AT £6,000,000. Yesterday afternoon Mr. Bromwell, who is at present in Auckland, and represents a laro-e number of insurance offices in San Francisco, received a cablegram reporting a large fire at Spokane Falls, Washington Territory, by which £6,000,000 worth of property has been destroyed by fire. Mr. Bromwell states that Spokane is, or rather was, for it must have been almost completely swept away, a thriving town of same 20,000 inhabitants, with an abundant supply of water. It is evident, however, that the conflagration must at an early stasre have got beyond the control of the local brigades, and, aided probably by a •'ale, swept everything before it.
