THE THEATRE.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —From time to time there have appeared in your columns reproaches addressed to persons who do not patronise theatrical performances. From the comments of an actor on the bungled execution at Sydney it appears that hanging is sometimes represented on the stage. It is difficult to imagine that such a scene can have the elevating moral influence which is claimed for the theatre, and it seems hardly surprising that there are many who refuse to run the risk of being present at such a ghastly per-formance.—-I am, &c, Maby Steadman Aldis. January 16, 1889.
