BANKRUPTCY.
■» .. DEBTOR'S EXAMINATION. Mrs. Ashkr.—Mrs. Hannah Asher gave evidence as follows on Saturday before the Official Assignee as to her bankruptcy :—I am a resident of Tauranga. About nine months ago I endorsed three promissory notes of about £150 each in favour of my son. When the first of these became due I could not meet it, and borrowed the amounts required from my husband. The second promissory note was paid by my son. The third became due, and neither myself nor my son being in a position to satisfy it, the holders took action, and made me a bankrupt. I own sundry properties, but thev are mortgaged to their full value. One of the mortgagees holds a mortgage due to me for £400, which is nearly due. When this is paid it will leave the property referred to nearly clear, aud there ought to be considerably more than sufficient to satisfy all creditors. The furniture in the house where I reside is mine, but is under bill of sale to my husband for £50, but should be value for £80. I understand now that the bill of sale holder' will have to stand aside until all the others are paid, but should the creditors insist on the furniture being realised I do not see any prospect of being able to purchase. I have nothing nor any interest in anything excepting what is now disclosed. FILINGS. Petitions in bankruptcy have been filed by John Buchanan (merchant), and Joseph H. Body (storekeeper, Dairy Flat).
