POLICE COURT.— Saturday. [Before Dr. Giles, B.M.] Drunkenness.—Four persons were punished for drunkenness. A Stabbing Cask.—Samuel Wells, a boy of 14 years, was charged with maliciously wounding Thomas Davis (16), by stabbing him in the back. Mr. O'Meagher appeared for the defence. Inspector Broham applied for a remand, and said that the affray was the outcome of ill-feeling between the boys. The case was remanded until Wednesday. A Fugitive OFFENDEB.-John Cobraan was charged on warrant of commitment for two years' imprisonment for having housebreaking implements in his possession ato Fitzroy, Victoria, and that he was at large in the colony of New Zealand, not having served the stiid term of imprisonment. Mr. Theo. Cooper appeared on behalf of the prisoner. The information was amended by the addition of the date of the offence, 27th September, 1887. Inspector Broham said the sentence was appealed against, but prisoner did not appear on the date of the appeal. He would produce evidence as to identity with a view of obtaining a remand for eight days, in order that an officer might arrive from Melbourne. Mr. Cooper submitted that His Worship had no power to remand the prisoner on the information before the Court; the provisional warrant was bad. Dr. Giles said that) there was a defect in the wording of the information, which had been laidunder a wrong clause of the Act. The case waa accordingly dismissed. His Worship gave permission for the issue of another information, and though prisoner, when discharged, made earnest efforts to do so, he was nob permitted to leave the building, and was re-arrested outside of the Courtroom. The further hearing of the case was adjourned until Tuesday.
