MOVEMENTS OF GOVERNOR AND ADMIRAL.

On Saturday morning His Excellency the Governor.accompanied by Admiral Fairfax, paid a visit to the Costley Training Institute, and wore shown over the establishment. Yesterday morning His Excellency abtended divino service at St. Mary's proCathedral, and the Admiral at St. Paul's, This afternoon the captain and officers of H.M.'s Rapid give a dance on board the ship, for which a number of invitations have been issued. It is understood Admiral Fairfax and Sir Wm, Jorvois will be present. THE SQUADRON. The arrival of the mail steamer Mariposa, with tidings of further aggressive movements on the part of the Germans at Samoa, has not loci to any change in tho movements of the squadron, ft sails for Wollington on Saturday next. Admiral Fairfax has roceived full particulars regarding Samoan affairs from Captain Hand, of H.M.s. Royalist, now stationed at Apia, and cabled tho news to the Admiralty authorities in London. Tho Royalist will remain at Samoa to watch events, and look after British interests. It is not likely sho will bo relieved for some time. An opportunity for fowarding , despatches to Captain Hand will bo obtained by tho steamer Richmond, which leaves on Tuesday for the Islands. The Auckland Club entertained a party of the officers of H.M.s. Rapid to dinner on Saturday evening. Owing to the state of the weather, tho cricket match between a team from the Auckland Cricket Club and one from the Fleet did not eventuate. Efforts aro being made to fix up the match for Friday next. The Band of H.M.s. Orlando was to havo performed in the Albert Park on Saturday afternoon, but owing to the rain setting in tho performance was postponed until a day to be lixed. His Worship tho Mayor, and Mr. P. A. Philips, Town Clerk, paid an official visit to H.M.s. Calliope at one o'clock on Saturday aftornoon, and were courteously received by tho officers. Notwithstanding tho extremely unpleasans weather which prevailed on Saturday, great crowds of our townspeoplo took the opportunity to visit the Calliope Dock, for tho purpose of inspecting H.M.s. Orlando as she lies there high and dry. When the excursionists landed they were greatly chagrined to discover that no 0110 was allowed to board the vessel as they had been led to expect. The best was made of the occasion, however, and curious parties of both sexes descended into tho the dock and walked around and under tho giant warship. Yesterday afternoon the throng of visitors was tremendous, and ferry steamer after steamer left packed with eager (sightseers. From about two p.m. till six the whole of tho Ferry Co.'s boats, as woll as the City of Cork, wero running as hard as possible, all regular timetables being susponded. Wβ aro informed that the naval authorities are in no way responsible for the published announcements as to the Orlando being open for inspection. Tho first that Captain Hammil knew of tho matter was seeing it ill tho newspapers. ORLANDO V. CITT GUARDS. The riile match between eight men from tho Orlando and a like number from tho City Guards begun on Saturday but was not finished owing to tho unfavourable state of the weather. Tho scores mado were very good, considering tho circumstances, for at times tho fog was so thick that it was almost impossible to soe the targets. Tho Orlando's team was under the direction of Captain Eastman, R.M.A., while Captain Kohn had charge of tho City Guards. Tho match will bo continued on Tuesday next at two p.m., and a? the scores aro now so close, tho Guards being only two points ahead, a most interesting finish may be expected. Majority for City Guards, 2 points. After the match the members of the Orlando team were entortained at dinner by the City Guards at the Imperial Hotel.
