SUNDAY OBSERVANCE.

TO THE KDITOK. STK, —I notice by this morning's Eeeald that Archdeacon Dudley has replied to the various letters which have appeared in connection with the remarks of Mr. Upton at the late Church meeting, but I also notice fchut the Archdeacon has carefully abstained from giving his own views on the observance of Sunday, or stating that they are in accord with the resolution as passed by the Lambeth Conference and appended to his letter. The tenor of the resolution passed by the Lambeth Conference has my hearty approval, and I think even the most obtuse ! layman can readily see how diametrically i opposed that resolution ia to the views enunciated by Mr. Upton. As a member of the Church of England in this diocese for the past 37 years, 1 have felt »jid stiil do feel cnieved. that Mr. IJntnu I

was not rebuked by Archdeacon Dudley as ohairman of the meeting, and 1 think that his reticence on the occasion is deserving of some explanation. I also trust) that some cognisance may be taken of this matter in the present Church Synod which is now sitting; for, I think its consideration is infinitely more important to the Church and its work than the protracted discussions on salaries of ministers, which appears to be engrossing its attention. I know the disabilities clergymen labour under in this country, through being afraid of speaking out their whole mind for fear of olfendinß- some influential layman ; but I think it better that these influential laymen should be rebuked when they deserve ib rather than that a number of churchmen saould secede from the Church. I venture to state thut the most pronounced Freethinker in tiiis city would not suggest a more complete programme for desecrating the Lord's Day than that suggested by Mr? Upton at this so-called Church meeting.— I am, &c, Pakxshionek.
