OVERWORKED RAILWAY MEN.
TO THE EDITOH.. ■r .. .< ». Sin,—ln the telegraphic columns of the Hehald of the last few days it; bias been stated that two railway accidents of a most ieriouß character;have occurred, causing great los 3 of life arid damage to property, occasioned »v the exhaustion and sleepiness of the engine-drivers from overwork. It may not be generally known that the railway employes on , our . lines • are also suffering from the same overwork —many of them, I am told, having to work fourteen and sixteen hours daily. This kind of thing cannot be carried oft for any great length of time without breaking down our railway handa, and: we shall in this colony have, too &-.sou, to lament some fearful sacrifice - of-. life, litid the c-; an try saddled with .leavy damages as compensation to the bereaved ones. May I beg you to use your powerful pen in mitigation of the ' long uours which the men are obliged to work or lose their situations. am, &c., C. Williamson.
