[by telegraph.—own correspondent.] Wellington, Thursday. TIMBER EXPORT. Although the Hon. Mr. Mitchelson has not returned to Wellington, it is known that on his way from Napier he has been seen by Mr. W. C. Smith, M.H.R., with respect to timber freight by railway. He has promised Mr. Smith to reduce the railway freights upon all classes of timber to what are known as white pine rates. BANKRUPTCY. According to the President of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce, the administration of the Bankruptcy Act is a source of profit to the Government. The following is the return laid before -lie Chamber yesterday:—Revenue: Fees in Supreme Court, £7753; fees in District Court, £5620; percentages on estates, £9567 : total, £22,757. Expenditure charged against the vote : For bankruptcy, £10,750 District Judge Broad's salary and expenses, £2276 ; proportion of salaries of judges and registrars, £4000: cost of auditing accounts, for which no charge is made against the estates, although the Act provides for it, £16,000 ; rent of offices, printing, stationery, £407 : total, £22,950. The President in his address said that trade had much improved, and that there was good ground for the belief in the revival of prosperity throughout the colony. ECCLESIASTICAL. The Rev. Allan Cory, vicar of Tipton, Staffordshire, in the diocese of Lichfield, has been nominated upon the recommendation of Bishop Abrahams (formerly of Wellington), and Bishop Cowie, of Auckland, to the incumbency of St. Peter's, Wellington, in the place of Archdeacon Stock. The nomination has been approved of by Bishop Hadtield. The Rev. Mr. Cory is described as a married clergyman, 36 years of age, a good preacher, holding moderate High Church views. DEARTH OF POLITICAL NEWS. There are two good illustrations of the extreme dearth of political news. The first is an account in the Post of a singular freak of nature in the shape of a chicken, possessing four legs, four wings, and a double beak. The second, in the same paper, a novelty, in the shape (or colour) of a brown and white rat, exhibited to-day in a cage in a shop in Cuba-street. COURT OF APPEAL. The next half-yearly sitting of the Court of Apeal is fixed for Friday, the sth of November. AUCKLAND SCHOOL COMMISSIONERS. School Commission in the provincial district, of Auckland are gazetted to be within the provisions of the Public Bodies Powers Act, 1887 (section 4), in regard to leasing, etc. AUCKLAND SHEEP DISTRICT. The Auckland district is gazetted "clean." The Miranda and Waikawau sub-districts are declared " infected." AUCKLAND GIRLS* INDUSTRIAL SCHOOL. The removal of the school from Walmsley House, Kent-street, to Beach House, St. George's Bay Road, is notified in the Gazette. PATENTS. Mr. Wesley Spragg, manager of the New Zealand Dairy Association, has deposited specifications of an invention for packing butter, cheese, or lard, or dairy produce generally; Thomas Wills Mander, of Hamilton, has deposited specifications for invention of a watertight butter box. POSTMASTERS. O. Bell is appointed to Churchill ; M. Hanson, to Ngaroto ; J. Curtis, to Point Curtis ; T. E. Clough, to To Aroha ; J. P. Yause, to Te Awamutu.
