AFFRAY AT NEW HEBRIDES.
EXCHANGE OF SHOTS. [press association.]
Sydney, September 21. One of the crew of the barquentine Hector, from Port Harding, New Hebrides, who had been detained ashore for misbehaviour, plunged into the sea to swim off as the vessel was sailing, and was fired at from the shore, but without effect. Those on board the vessel returned the fire, but no casualties are reported. It is not known whether the firing party ashore were whites or natives.
