THE UNIONIST MEETING.

MR. CHAMBERLAIN'S SPEECH.

OPPOSITION TO MR. GLADSTONE.

FORMATION OF A NATIONAL PARTY. [press association.] London, September 20. Mr. Chamberlain, speaking at a, Unionist meeting at Bradford, cordially approved the Government policy, for which he considered he was partly answerable himself. He averred he would not raise a finger to destroy Lord Salisbury's Government so long as the only alternative that remained was Mr. Gladstone's accession to office. The alliance of the Unionists and Conservatives was firm, and a thorough understanding prevailed, which, lie believed, would result in the formation of a national party. He said that the healing of the breach between the two branches of the Liberal party would now seem to be impossible.
