THE SAN FRANCISCO SERVICE.
Sydney, August 25. At a public meeting to-day resolutions were passed protesting against the renewal of the San Francisco mail contract if Chinese were employed on the steamers engaged in the service. AQUATIC~CARNIVAL. Brisbane, August 25. Kemp, Beach, Hanlan, and Neil son will take part in the aquatic carnival to be held here, and an effort is being made to induce Teenier, Hamm, O'Connor, Gaudaur, Ross, and Lee to compete. DROUGHT IN NEW SOUTH WALES. Sydney, August 25. The drought is causing sad havoc in the western districts of New South Wales. The drought is the worst that has been experienced here for years. Many sheep are dying, and the outlook is very dismal. It is proposed to offer special prayers for rain throughout the colony on 31st inst. OBITUARY. Sydney, August 25. The French Vice-Consul here, the Marquis le Roistang, is dead. THE SUEZ MAIL. Albany, August 26. Arrived : Oroya, from Plymouth. Passengers for New Zealand :Miss Millar, Messrs. The Janet Niccol has left Bundaberg for Lyttelton with a cargo of sugar. Hobart, August 25. Sailed at 4 a.ra. : S.s. Tainui, for New Zealand. Sydney, August 26. Arrived : Manapouri, from Auckland.
