HOKITIKA. Aug. 18.—The s.s. Charles Edward struck on the bank while going out this morning, but she is expected to get off with to-night's tide. [The Charles Edward is a twin-screw steamer of 200 tons burden, trading between Nelson and the West Coast.] PORT CHALMERS. August 18.—Arrived -. S.s. Warefttea, from Westport; s.s. Elderslie, from Timaru. Sailed : Wareatea, for Westport. August 19.—Arrived: R.M. s.s. Ruapehu, from Lyttelton; s.s. Invercargill, from the Bluff.
