HORSES.
During the first; three months of the present year there had been a large increase in the export of horses from England both in numbers and value, more than double the numbers and value for 1886. The total exports reached 1733, of the value of £116,22b". Of these, 567 went to the United States at £35,000; Holland took 3-20 at £12,395; France, 302 at £19,216 j Belgium, 1-38 at £8839; British North America, 2(5 at £2350 ; and other countries, 382 at £38,426. There was also a large increase in the number of horses imported— these being 2129 in the three months, as against 1681 in 1887 ; but the values do nob show a proportionate advance, being £36,878, against £30,711 in 1887. It thus appears that the average value of the horses exported from England ie close upon £68, while the average value of the horses imported into Great Britain is only £17 per head.
It may be mentioned that according to a parliamentary paper lately issued the estimated revenue to be derived from the horse and wheel taxes is £842,500.
