BANKRUPTCY.
Re H. C. N. Tanner.—Henry Canning Newel Tanner, of Te Kuiii, boardinghousekeeper, yesterday filed his petition to be adjudicated a bankrupt. The bankrupt also made his ewora statement before the Official Assignee as follows: —About 18 months ago I commenced business ab Otorohanga as boardinghouse-keeper. I carried on successfully for about six months, and then moved to Waititi, as my business lay entirely among the labourers employed on the railway works. At Waititi I was in the habit of supplying meals to about 140 men, and I losfc heavily owing to the men leaving withoub paying their bills. I then moved the house I owned at Otorohanga to Tβ Kuiti, and there started the bnardinghouse business about twelve months ago. I have been able to pay my way fairly as far as the Tβ Kuiti business is concerned, but pressure from creditors on account of the Waititi business compelled me to file. I had no capital when 1 began business at Otorohanga eighteen months ago, and was in debt to the extent of £40 or £50. These debts I have since paid, or nearly so. My assets consist of two horses, buggy and harness, book debts, and furniture. A bailiff was put in possession on Mondaylast by one of my principal creditors. I have disclosed all I possess, and am not in a position to make any offer to my creditors.
An adjourned meeting of the creditors of William Harris, gardener, Newmarket, was to have been held at the office of the Official Assignee yesterday, at eleven o'clock, bub again no creditors turned up, and the meeting lapsed for want of a quorum.
