DEATH OF MR. MAURICE KELLY, OF THE WADE.
Mr. Maurice Kelly, one of the oldest and best known of the settlers of the Auckland provinco, died yesterday morning. A few months ago a biographical notice of Mr. Kelly appeared in the Herald, with a portrait, in which he claimed to be 104 years of ago. That was generally bolieved to bo about his age, but some contend that he had not even reached the century. However it may be for a year or two, there are few, if any, now alive in the district who can remember the time when Maurice Kelly was not a power in the North. He must have been a"man of a very strong constitution, because he was in no way an observer of what is believed to be the regimen necessary to reach advanced years. He told tho Herald reporter who interviewed him, that he had been drinking whisky, and that not in moderation, for 87 years. The deceased was a man of great force of character, and was jolly and boisterous up till lately. Ho will be buried to-day at the Waclo, and several old friends will go from Auckland to bo present at the funeral. At St. Patrick's Cathedral yesterday evening, the Rev. Father Gillan announced the death of Mr. Kelly, and asked the prayers of the congregation on behalf of his soul.
