MR. VAILE AND THE RAILWAY SYSTEM.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir.,—There is one feature in the letter of abuse directed against Mr. Vaile in to-day's! Herald, signed by one who professes to know "pretty considerable," and that is, there was no need that he should sign his real To me, his personality is as dis-' tinct as his impertinence. There is only one man that could write it. There are lots of men who might attempt to controvert Mr. Vaile's notions in a straightforward and business manner, but there is only one that would stoop to such pettifogging quibbling as displayed in that letter. To the citizens of New Zealand, the question is of too grave importance (if they could only realise it) to form the subject of a little pedantic display. I would say to the writer, ue sutor ultra, crepidam, and " doff that lion's skin from off those recreant limbs of thine." If this man of knowledge could read between the lines of Mr. Vaile's letter, he would see that it is not a question of a Friday or a Saturday in April, but simply an illustration of the present unwise policy, and the desirability of' producing a better. Whenever Parliament begins seriously to consider the question, the opinions of men of the class that this, man who knows so much more about railways than Mr. Vaile belongs to, will have but little weight, because knowledge vaunteth not itself, boasteth not, and doth not behave itself unseemly.—l am, &c., Joseph Ormrod.
