THE AUCKLAND HOSPITAL — DR. LINDSAY AND MRS. QUINNAN'S JURY CASE
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,— the fortnightly meeting of the Board of Management on Monday evening last. Dr. Lindsay, on referring to the rider of the Coroner's Jury, stated that in hia opinion the rider was added by the jury without their inquiring into the regulations of the Hospital concerning visitors, and as to how the regulations were carried out. Now, as foreman of the jury in question, I cannot allow Dr. Lindsay's insinuation to pass without comment; and I am sorry that he should bo far forget himself as to reproach the jury with such unwarrantable dissembling in the performance of their duties, and should like to impress him with the fact that the gentlemen composing that jury had no selfish ends to serve, but that their verdict was purely the result of an honest and unbiassed inquiry. Whether Dr. Lindsay has resorted to such a . perverted statement in order to evade any blame or neglect being attached to himself or to screen his officials he knows. However, I may inform Dr. Lindsay that the jury did inquire both into the Hospital regulations referred to, and also as to how they were carried out, and they were quite satisfied that the management of the Hospital cbncerning visitors supplying patients with objectionable food, etc., were not what it ought to be, and considered, therefore, that they were quite justified in adding the censurable rider to their verdict.— am °t c - > • R. W. Moody. June 20, 1888.
