The Warkworth School Committee held a meeting on the 30th ult. when a paper was received from the Minister of Education contabling a statement of the amount expended on school buildings since the coming into operation of the Education Act, 1877. The matter was deemed worthy of serious consideration, and it was resolved to circulate the paper through the committee, and discuss it tat next meeting. A letter from the Minister of Education was also received in reply to the householders' resolution re school books, and the opinion therein expressed is not in conformity with the roeolution, the Minister considering that a monopoly in favour of one set of books for the whole colony would tend to discourage the efforts now being made to produce better books. Mr. Pidlor's report of the last examinations was also received, and was considered on the whole satisfactory, but requested the teacher's more careful attention in the future to some minor matters of detail. A notification from the Board that Miss Weston, pupil teacher, had been promoted to the rank of assistant teacher, was also considered satisfactory. Another cause for congratulation was that the average daily attendance had l'eached 80; that for last quarter was 74*1.
