ROYAL HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY'S SHOW.

The autumn show of this society xno,. all day on Saturday, and was visited^ 0 large crowds of people, who greatly I mired the magnificent display of f ru i aC * well as the other features of the P\-v,;k-'- as —plants, vegetables, flowers, &c JR" committee and secretary were indefationKi in their efforts to promote the eniovn '"' a , the visitors by affording the fullest i£' ° tion on every question referred to th' Da * and the exhibitors themselves also re I j good service in this respect. The ere( * of this season's show is no doubt in SUoces3 measure, due to the indefatiffahl L „ a §? eat Mr. S. E. Hughes, the 4rtrv society ; but he was admirably aided K the committee, the greater number of wV. are skilled experts, and the exhibits we" 1 all attractively staged. There was feature which we omitted to mention in our report in Saturday's issue, which is Wort of some notice. This was a plate of russetapples exhibited by Messrs. ]). Hay and Son. The apples are beautifully formed and on comparing them with the Ohine' muri Russet, it is seen that they are quite distinct, as they have less russet, smoother skin, and show "more colour. These "we were informed, are "a sport" from' the Reinette de Canada.

There was some disappointment in the evening. It was announced that the fine band of the Russian war-ship Rynda would perform in the hall, but during the afternoon Lieutenant Coldstreau and another officer came ashore and informed the committee that the band could not come as some of its members were laid up with typhoid fever. Mr. Impey's Band was however, in attendance, and played a lar'e number of selections during the evening 6 At ten o'clock the show was closed. A large number of ths exhibits had been dispesed of during the day, and these were at once taken possession of by the purchasers. Other exhibits were presented to friends of the exhibitors, and in a very short time the tables were cleared, thus bringing to a close the most successful show this Society has had since its inauguration.
