THE FLAX INDUSTRY.
Otm Rahotu correspondent writes -—For some years there has been a flaxmill i n fan swing in Opunake, under the managementof Messrs. Wagstaff, theirs being thenni one in the district. A short time 2? however, a Mr. Rutherford, from the otfi Island, visited this district, and w ft satisfied with it that he determined to stun a flaxmUl here. I am informed tfil merchant has agreed to give him £20 L, ton here ; so Mr. Rutherford got an en£ over, with other machinery, secured a Ste and now has it in full work. Upward,.; 20 hands are employed. There is abundant of flax in this district. The venture f good that Messrs. Stevenson and SuW have decided to have one also. Mr Ste son has the engine at hand. Another' gentleman has been to me about getting site. It is fortunate for this district V all other produce is nearly valueless t'w the flax is so abundant that the contract f cutting and delivering it at the mill i. a! per ton. a ° 8
