[own correspondent.] Thames, Wednesday. The annual session of the New Zealand Grand Council of the Protestant Alliance Friendly Society was held yesterday. The newly-elected officers are Robert Scott, W.6.M. ; John West, D.G.M. ; W. Smith, Grand Secretary ; John McDonald, Grand Treasurer R. T. Douglas and D. W. Pithkethley, Grand Auditors ; John West, Adam Sherlock, and D. Henderson, Grand Trustees. [press association.] Napier, Wednesday. The leader of a gang of larrikins, who have been watched by the police for some time, was to-day sentenced by the R. M, to five months' imprisonment for using obscene language and destroying property. Several other members of the gang were dealt with more leniently. Alexander Konnedy, a very old settler here, died this morning from the bursting of a blood vessel. Wellington, Wednesday. In the Court of Appeal, a motion on be half of the Law Society in re William Henderson, a solicitor in Dunedin, was adjourned until 14th April, _ intimation being given that unless certain moneys were paid by that date, an extreme step would be taken. The Otago and Tuapeka police districts have been amalgamated, and Inspector Moore, who has been stationed at Laurence, has been transferred to Invercargill, Inspector Buckly, who has been in charge of the Southland district, retiring from the service. Christchurch, Wednesday. Dr. Derenzie has been appointed house surgeon, and Miss Boys matron of the Christchurch Hospital, both on probation for three months. The volunteers have finally decided to hold a camp at Hare wood, six miles from ' Christchurch, at Easter. The corps will ration themselves, but tents, transports, and fuel will be provided.
