YUNNAN EARTHQUAKE.
TERRIBLE DEVASTATION.
[press association.]
Hong* Kong, February 21. From further details*to hand respecting the terrible earthquakes which wrecked the city of Yunnan, the capital of the province of the same name, it appears that the particular shock which wrecked the city also ruined the whole province.
The work of destruction was completed in a few minutes.
Immediately after the shock flames burst out in the capital, and in villages throughout the province. Whole families were buried beneath the ruins of their homes.
Hundreds of inhabitants were injured by falling buildings, and others were helplessly burned to death. In some cases houses were lifted by the shock, and were carried some distance away, being deposited intact.
