THE TRAMWAY STRIKE ENDED.
Melbourne, February 17. The strike of the tramway employes has ended by the Union men giving way. Many of those, however, who went out have lost their positions, as a large number of the vacancies had been already filled.
A DECENTRALISATION LEAGUE.
Sydney, February 17. Since the railway line was opened to Brisbane, some alterations have been made in the time-table interfering with the Newcastle people, who are so angry that there is some talk of forming a Separation League. This, however, has been negatived, and a Decentralisation League has been instituted instead, to protect the interests of the Northern districts as against Sydney.
THE TRAMCAR-MEN'S STRIKE. Melbourne, February 17. Several of the strikers have returned to their work. Men are flocking to the company for employment, and the tramcars are run as usual.
SHIPPING. Sydney, February 17. Arrived : The Seabird, from Whangaroa, with timber. Brisbane, February 17. Arrived: The Belle, barque, from New Zealand.
Melbourne, February 17. The Union Steamship Company's s.s. Mararoa arrived from the Bluff yesterday.
