MASONIC.

There was a very Urge number of brethren at Lodge Remuera on January 9, many of whom assembled to wish God-speed to Brother P.M. La.ioche, who is about to proceed to Knrope. Anions the P.M.'a assembled on the dais were: Brothers W. Louder, D.P. G.M., and J. B. tsam, S. R. George, C. Hesket'a, W. Bedford, T. M. He—son, T. W. Kitt, S. Keith, F. Macrae, J. P. Ciark, W. J. Suiter, E. Augur, G. H. Powiey, Dr. L°ger Erson, Josiah Martin, and others. Brother Kempt, W.M.. opened the lodge, and having done so, introduced Brother P.M. Laßoche into the chair of K.S. far the purpose of performing toe somewhat unique ceremony of initiating his own son, Mr. C. A. Laßoche into the ancient mysteries of the craft. The ceremony was performed in a most impressive manner, assisted by Brothers P.M.'s Macrae, J. Martin, audEsam. After the close of the interesting ceremony, Brother D. Kempt, W.M., in a neat speech, spoke of the valuable services Brother P.M. Li Roche had rendered the ledge, and hoped he would have "God's speed' and a safe return to the home of his family, and to the lodge. Brothers P.M.'s R. George, Lodder, Hesketh, Bedford, and others, ali old members of the lodge endorsed all that the W. M. expressed re lve to Brother j Laßcche, who in a most fer'. .g reply, declared | that some of the happiest moments of his life had been spent in Lodge Rc-muera ; but be never felt so honoured as on the pre3tnt occasion, when r.Seciing on the kind expres- , sion3 relative to himself which ha-"! lallen from the old and distinguished P.M.'s present, added to which he feit it an especial privilege to initiate his own son into what ne considered one of the first orders in the universe. After the close of one of the most ; interesting meetings ever held in the lodge, the brethren adjourned to the refreshment room, where Brother Laßoche's health was drunk with bumpers, amidst rounds of applause. The quarterly communication of the Provincial Grand Lodge, Scoitiaa constitution, was held on Jan. 27 at the Freemasons' Hail, the Hen. Sir Fredk. Whitaker, K.W P.G.M., presiding. A very large amount ci general business was disposed of, and some important rulings were given. The election of officers for the ensuing year took place. The P.G.M, announced that he had received the resignation of Brother P.M. Dewar, G.c.W. This was an office in the appointment of the P.G.M., and he had not yet made up his mind as to how the vacancy was to be filled, so that matter would stand over for the present. The following tffioers were reelected i—Brother W. Wilkinson, treasurer ; Brother Hartaell, S.D. ; Brother Stevenson, J.D.; Brother Cleave, architect; Brother Kohn, jeweller. Brother Forrest was elected grand director of ceremonies, and Brother Crisps, I.G. The election of the other officers was postponed until the next quar* teriy communication of tha P.G. Lodge, to be held in April.
