THE ENGLISH CRICKETERS IN AUSTRALIA.

BIG [SCORIN G. ; \ [beoteb's telegram.]

Melbourne, December 17The return cricket match, Shan-Lilly* white's team v. Victoria, was continued to-day. The weather was fine. An excellent wiokeb was again provided, but the match was only patronised by a small attendance of spectators, The visitors, with two wickets down for 178 runs, continued their first innings, and completely master* ing the bowling of the home team, maintained a determined stand. When play ceased for the day the Englishmen had lost four wickets for 500 runs. Lohmaan and Shrewsbury not outs of the previous day took their places at the wickets, but Lohmann soon afterwards retired, being replaced by Brain, who, with Shreswsbary, quickly ran up the score. Brain put together 118 runs before he was given out. Briggs succeeded Brain, and continued in until time was called, when, his score stood at 39, not out. Shrewsbury, who commenced his day's work with 86 runs to his credit, remained at the wicket till play was stopped, when his total was 221 runs, not out.
