OUTBREAK OP MEASLES. Melbourne, December 16. The Health Officer at Albany telegraphs that the R.M.s. Oroya, which arrived from England at that port yesterday, has 17 cases of measles and one case of chicken pox on board.

WESTERN AUSTRALIA.

Perth, December 15. The Legislative Council was opened to-day by His Excellency the Governor, who in his speech on the occasion informed the House that the Imperial Government were prepared to accept in principle, but with a reservation as to details, the resolutions passed last session in favour of responsible Government for Western Australia. His Excellenoy stated that the estimated revenue for the present year was £371,000, or £30,000 less than the original estimate, the expenditure being estimated at £440,000. As the colony commenced the year with a surplus of £83,000, there would be a credit balance of £14,000 on the Ist of January next.

FRENCH EXPULSION OF AN ENGLISH MISSIONARY. Sydney, December 16. The Rev. J. Jones, English missionary at Mare, arrived in this city last night, having been expelled by the French from the Island, at half-an-hour's notice, after a residence of thircyfour years. The Victorian Parliament will be prorogued to-morrow morning. AN ABSURD CLAIM. Sidney, December 16. The Daily Telegraph has been served with a writ issued at the instance of Mr. G. R. Dibbs. The damages claimed are £25,000. SYDNEY MARKETS. Sydney, December 16. New Zealand wheat shows an improvement of 3d per bushel since last report. The quotations to-day are 3s to 3s 3d per bushel; New Zealand oats are somewhat easier, inferior samples showing a decline of Id. Prices rule Is lOd to 2s 2d per bushel, but the market is dull. Maize is Id to 2d per 561bs lower than last week, viz., 3.? 9d to 3s lid. Sugar Company's No. 1 pieces are quoted at £25 10s per ton. ADELAIDE MARKETS. Adelaide, December 16. At Adelaide old wheat firmly maintains last week's quotations of 3s 6d to 3s 7d per bushel. New wheat is fetching 3s 2d per bushel. Town flour is quoted at £9 ss, and country brands at £8 5s to £8 10s.

MELBOURNE WOOL SALES. Melbourne, December 16. At the usual weekly wool sales held by the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. (Limited) yesterday, 4500 bales were offered, of which 3850 bales were disposed of. Competition was very animated, and the rise in prices reported last week was well maintained in all descriptions except lambs wool, which was dull of sale. Greasy merino realised IOJd per lb; comeback, ll£i; crossbred, 9£d ; lambswodl, Bid ; scoured merino, 16£ d ; and washed fleece, 17|d. -
