PROTECTION.
TO THK EDITOB.
Sie, —Great effort! will be made under thie cry of Protection to bring baok Sir Julina Vogel and his crew into power again. I think that both the town and country electors should have it clearly explained to them what benefit they are to get from a protective tariff. Will the population of the colony be increased by the addition of taxation? People at the present time come to New Zealand because of ita fine climate and cheap living. But the protectionists want to make living dearer both for new-comers and the country settlers. The only chance the country settlers have of getting anything from Protection would be the placing of a prohibitive duty on sugar. If the shoemaker, the tailor, the cabinetmaker, and the worker in iron were to agree and help Mr. Moss to got this duty placed on sugar, I should be almost inclined to vote for Sir Julius Vogel coming back to power again. Mr. Moss might then have his dream of sleeping in a State bed with satin hangings realised.—l am, &0., Electob.
