NEW ZEALAND RADICAL REFORM LEAGUE.
The committea of the above Association met in the Excelsior Hall on Tuesday evening. There was a full attendance, and Mr. Greenwood presided. An animated discussion took place over a suggested alteration of the rules, and it was decided to advocate a change, to the effect that, unless a proposed member was unanimously approved of, his election should be postponed till the next meeting. The object was to prevent the society being suddenly packed for party purposes. With reference to Mr. Farnall's notice of motion re defects in the Representation Act, members were unanimously of opinion that the system of taking a show of hands at the nomination of candidates was a gross infringement of the principle of the ballot, and should be forthwith discontinued. There was, however, much diversity of opinion as to the practicability or expediency of depriving electors of the right to constitute themselves into election committees and make a personal canvass for votes. On the motion of Mr. Duffus, seconded by Mr. Jeune, the following resolotion was unanimously adopted : " That we earnestly request Sir George Grey, Mr. Mitchelson, Mr. Goldie, and Mr. Withy to take such steps as they may deem best to get the currency question promptly and thoroughly investigated." The secretary was instructed to forward this to the gentlemen named, and also a similar one which was recently sent by the League to their predecessors to the various members of the Cabinet. In consequence of the proposed adjournment of Parliament, it was decided to postpone the next meeting of the Association to the 7th of November.
