THE MANAGEMENT OF THE HOSPITAL.
A "HOUSE BURGEON" TO BE AP- f POINTED. The Hospital and Charitable Aid Board * held a special meeting yesterday evening to discuss the question of hospital management, when the following members were pressnt: — Messrs. Maya (in the chair), Isaacs, Niccol, Suiter, Kitld, Crowther, and Udy. Drs. Haines, Mao Mullen, and Cobbett, members of the Hospital medical staff, were also in attendance.
On the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Mr. Crowther, the Board went into committee, and after upwards of two hours' deliberation, the folio win-,; reao'utions were agreed to upon the Board's resuming;— "That applications be received up to the Ist December next for is house surgeon for the Auckland Hospital, ac a salary of £250 per annum, with board and apartments in the institution, the conditions of appointment to be as follows :—
"I. Applicants to hold a diploma both in medicine and surgery within the United Kingdom, and the Australian colonies. "2. The engagement to be terminable on three months' notice from either side.
"3. Applicants to state their age, what diplomas they hold, and to forward oopies only of their testimonials, and to name at least two medical men of standing in the colony who can testify to the moral character of the applicant. "4. The Bouse Surgeon to enter upon his duties on the Ist January next, and he shall not engage in private practice or receive fees from patients or officers of the institution. "5. The House Surgeon to supervise and exercise control over all officers and departments of the Hospital and Refuges, and to be responsible to the Board for their good government, in consideration of such extra duties, he shall be paid £50 per annum in addition to his salary/' It was agreed, " That applications be invited for a house physician in terms of the rules and regulations of the Hospital." The following resolution was also carried : —"That the House Committee inquire into and report upon the working of the Hospital staff."
