LAKE TAKAPUNA DISTRICT AND THE HARBOUR BOARD.
A petition has been prepared by' Mr. Warmoli, and is now being signed by the residents and owners of property in the Lake district, praying that the Harbour Board Acts should be so amended as to give them a representative on. the Board. It is manifestly unjust that, while Devonporb is represented on the Board, and also Northcote, the Lake district, which has a large frontage to the harbour, and also to the shore of the Rangitoto channel, should be shut out. We understand that Mr. Monk, the member for Waitemata, has promised to support the prayer of the petition, and probably he will get the Government to introduce a small Bill to give it effect. The following is the petition, which will be at the office of Mr. Seaman, Insurance Building*, for 3 few days, for the signature of those interested: —
" That your petitioners are owners of land situate on the shores of Waitemata Harbour, and the Hauraki Gulf, lying immediately west and south of the Borough of Devonport, North Shore, parish of Takapuna, aforesaid, and also east of Birkenhead, North Shore, parish of Takapuna aforesaid, and also owners of land surrounding Lake Takapuna aforesaid, That the Borough of Devonport and the Birkenhead Road Board have each one representative on the Auckland. Harbour Board. That your petitioners are desirous of also being represented oa the Auckland Harbour Board, as they are owners of land in Shoal Bay, and on the shores of the Hauraki Gulf, and can only have their interests properly conserved by being represented on the Auckland Harbour Board. And your petitioners ask your honourable House to cause the Auckland Harbour Acta to be so amended that thoy can have one representative on the Auckland Harbour Board to enable them to protect their interests in such a manner that the general good of the whole harbour can be looked after and oared for in a more efficient manner than bow is the case, not only an affects the districts now represented but those of the foreshore districts more immediately abutting on the Lake Takapuna District, Your petitioners therefore ask your honourable House to cause the said Act» to be so amended that they can have one representative on the said Auckland Harbour Board."
