Sonata Marakai (wife of Hoera te Mimiha) who was convicted last week), was arraigned on an indictment charging her with having committed wilful and corrupt perjury in the evidence ehe gave in the case in which Charles Henry Wight was charged with committing rape on her, and the oaie in which Hoera was charged with assaulting Wight by cutting off his ear. Mr. Cotter prosecuted on behalf of the Crown. The prisoner pleaded not guilty. Messrs. O'Meagher and Dufanr were present, but Mr. Dufaur said that they did not intend to* offer any evidence or cross-examine the wit* nesses for the prosecution.
