j "A" Battery v. Gordon Rifles. —A scratch match between these old opponents took place at the Mount Eden Range on Saturday afternoon, and resulted in a win for the "A" Battery by 17 points. The conditions were : Change weapons—the Gordons firing with the Artillery carbine#, and the Artillery using their opponents' riflos. Neither corps had their first team. Tho ranges were 200 and 300 yards, 8 inch bullseye, eight shots at each range. The following are the scores : — "A" BATTERY ARTILLERY. 20Cyda. 300 yds. Church Parade. —A strong contingent of the Waitemata and Onehunga Navals held a church parade, aed attended at St. Matthew's yesterday morning, when the service was conducted by the incumbent, who also preached. Before the service notice was given of a projected series of sermons to the young men of Auckland on Sunday evenings monthly. The first will be preached in St. St. Matthew's Church on Sunday evening next, the Rev. Wm. Tebbs having been requested to deliver it. The subject is announced as "Earth Revisited, or the Raising of the Widow's Son." Auckland Cavalry.—On Saturday afternoon this troop held a parade at Elleralie at four o'clock, under Captain Leger Erson. There was a good muster present and the men were put through a variety of evolutions and arms exercises, at which they acquitted themselves very creditably. The Hobson Champion Rifle Belt, presented to the company by the late Lieutenant W. G. Connelly, will be presented to Sergeant Cantell, the wiuner, at the parade of No. 2 battalion, tomorrow night. The presentation will be made by Mrs. W. G. Connelly, the widow of the generous donor of the trophy.
