SETTLEMENT IN THE BAY OF PLENTY DISTRICT.

[by telegraph. — own correspondent. 1 Taukanga, Wednesday. Mr. David Asher, who has been negotiating the purchase of the valuable Papamoa block, between here and Te Puke, for the Government, left for Auckland to-day. Mr. Asher proceeds to Auckland to obtain succession orders to deceased native owners, and trustees for the minora interested in the block. The Government have been for years endeavouring to secure the Papatnoa block for settlement purposes, but to little effect until Mr. Asher's assistance was secured. In all there aro 105 signatures to be obtained. Of that number Mr. Asher has already secured tho major part, and tfce rest will be obtained after tiiu succession orders aro made and trustees appointed. The block is one of the most valuable in the district, being of firstclass quality, easily accessible, anil adjacent to botn Taurauga and i e Puke settlements.
