Little voluntary help will be needed ; beside that the use of it to a great extent would be too precarious an arrangemout. The regular staff of Messrs. Draffin, Caraon (three hours), Robinson (one hour), and Kavanagh will be able to manage the school efficiently with the help ot Mr. Newton for one hour on Tuesday (bookkeeping), of Mr. Hart for one hour on Wednesday (drawing), and of two students (by arrangement with the Principal of the Training College) for one hour and a-half on Friday night. The sooner this or some definite arrangement is adopted the better, before winter slips by, at the attendance will probably fall off in summer. The eights chosen will suit visiting teachers named. Mr. Habene, the Inspector-General, visited the school last night.— Wμ. Fidlkb, In■pector of Schools. Some discussion took place respecting the payment of the visiting teachers. Mr. Upton said he did not think the teachers should go to the sohool without receiving some remuneration; though no doubt they were very kind in offering their services in the work. It was decided to refer the question of the remuneration of Messrs. Robinson and Newton to the Training College Visiting Committee. Examination of City Schools.—The Training College Visiting Committee suggested, with respect to the examination of city schools conjointly by two inspectors, chat the recommendation to that effect be not acceded to, as it would entail a severe strain upon the pupi'.s. The report was adopted. Tub Kktbenchmint Question. — The Chairman moved, "That the question of dispensing with the services of the junior clerk be reconsidered." He quoted figures contrasting the manner in whioh educational business was conducted in Auckland, Canterbury, and Otaeo, showing that there was much more work to be done in Auckland than in any of the other districts named. The Chairman moved, "That the services of the junior clerk be retained." Mr. Upton maintained that one clerk too many was employed in the office. In reply to Mr. Goldie, Mr. C!ark considered that the questiott of the salary paid to the clerk had nothing to do with the f»ot of there being more olerke in the office than were necessary, He thought the recommendations of the secretary as to the proposed reduction of the staff were entitled to grt;at weight. (Hear, hear.) Every additional school and every additional committee increased the amount of correspondence and other work to be done by the office staff. Nothing had ever been said regarding want of efficiency on the part of the office staff: the work had always been faithfully done, more particularly tne work of the secretary. Mr. Carr moved an amendment, M That the matter be referred back to the Office Management Committee." Eventually the original motion, "That the services of the junior clerk be retained," was carried on the casting vote of the chairman. MisCKi-LANEOus.—A considerable amount of routine business respecting employment and removal of teachers, etc., was dealt with, and accounts having been considered, the meeting terminated.
