ROTORUA NEWS.
[BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT,] Rotouoa, Tuesday. The anticipated clashing of interests between the Rotorua County Council and the Town Board is now becoming apparent. Tho Chairman of the latter having cautioned the hotelkeopers not to pay their license fees to the County Council, that body met yesterday, when it was resolved to interview the various publicans relative to the position of affairs, and to guarantee their protection in the issue of fresh licenses if they will pay the fees to the County Council. The Town Board base thoir claim upon the provisions laid down in the Thermal Springs Act, a clause in which specifies that all license fees and other revenue shall be paid to the Town Board ; but against this is the fact that a subsequent Act has been passed for the constitution of a new county, invested with all the powers under the Counties Act, wherein it is distinctly stated that all license fees aud other revenues go to the County Council. If it we not so it would simply be madness on the part of the Government to constitute a new county without any source of revenue. One or other must fall to the ground before long, if Government does not arrange things on a more satisfactory footing. The Rotomahana-Parekarangi Block Is now proceeding both rapidly and smoothly under Judge Brabant. Probably three weeks more will finish all the cases ; then comes the list of names, and afterwards the subdivision. The natives all express great satisfaction at the manner in which the Court is being conducted, the only complaint being tho number of adjournments ; but of course these were unavoidable, and are no less frequent.
