THE MIDLAND RAILWAY.
■■ [BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Greymooth, Tuesday. It is understood that some difficulty has arisen between the Customs aDd Audit, and the contractors of the Midland Railway, as to payiDg duty upon certain articles imported by them in connection with railway construction, such as harness, toolß, nails, etc. They absolutely refuse to pay the duty demanded, considering that in the terms of their contract everything connected with the railway imported into the colony should be duty free. The matter is still in abeyance, but it is hoped a satisfactory arrangement will shortly be come to. The company rely upon the terms of their contract, and the assurance of the Agent-General in London. The Midland Railway new locomotive made a most successful trial trip to-day, and on returning the guests drank success to the company.
