THE CRIMES BILL.
[reutkr's telegram.] London, Jane 11. In the House of Commons to-day Mr. Smith's motion, that the committee should report on the Crimes Bill by the 17th inst., was carried by a majority of 155. The debate was protracted, and the cloture was applied to bring it to an end. Mr. Gladstone spoke, and admitted that the paralysis of the business of the House caused widespread discontent, but declared that the Government were answerable for the state of affairs. A Press Association message says :— During the discussion on the Crimes Bill the cloture had to be applied five times, its application being hotly opposed. The Speaker characterised the debate as disgraceful.
