A man has been brought down from the Papakuragumhelds, named EdwardDogherty (alias Grant),,by Detective Hughes, who has been sentenced to three months' imprisonment. He had eased some Maoris at an hotel in the district of £2 or £3 by the threecard trick, and then changed his clothes to avoid detection.. The detective also brought down Hugh Sullivan on a commitment warrant, who was in arrears of his mainte-. nance money for his wife and children, and who was also sent to the gaol.
