THE GOLDFIELDS.

fBTTELEGRAPH.—OWN COBBESPONDBKT.] Thames, Monday. SharemAßKET.—Cambria, 4s to 4s 6d, buyers 4s 6d ; Saxon, 2s 5i to 2s 6'd, buyers, 2s 6d. Cambria.—The mine manager reported that everything would be ready to atart sinking the winze the cross loader on Friday last. The oountry in the south croasaut, No. 4 level, has become tighter, and any change here is of importance, as the drive is now within 100 feet of the middle of the ridge, and a reef may be met with at any moment. The valuable specimens sent to London have been returned to the Thames and will bo crushed with next specimens. Diamond.—The retorted gold molted 730z 12dwt at the bank—viz., 440z ldwt at 52a 3d, £115 la 6d, and 290z lldwfc at 41a 4d, £G1 Is : total value, £178 2e 6d, the produce of 10 tons ore treated at the reduction works. Nkw Prince Imperial.—The mine manager reports :—The contractors have driven the eastern driven on No. 1 reef at No. 2 level eighteen feet during the past ! week. The ground has been vory hard, being mixed up with strong ribs of bastard quartz, whioh makes it bad for blasting; but there is now an apparent change for the better coming in. To-day the reef was broken down ; the good portion, which is being saved for crushing, is over a foot thick ; the quartz is of that usual white description, and is very kindly for gold, but as yet none has been seen. I don't mind this much as long as the good rib of quartz does not mix up with the big barren portion of the reef. Iu the third stope there has been none of the lead taken down for the past few days. Near the back of the stope there is a flat head mixed with bastard quartz passing through the lead, which has broken it up a good deal, but I don't think it will be of any consequence, as the lead is sure to make all right again up through it. Rising for the fourth stope was started this morning. The second stopp, on the western or shaft side of the break, has been carried along for about twelve feet; the lead looks fairly well, but so far no gold has been seen. Work can now at any time be started eastward of Odgere and party's tribute block, as they finished on Wednesday last.

Vaoghajt (Coromandel). —The mine manager reporte: The low level tunnel is going through a much better class of country. The reef commenced to widen out again. I cannot get any gold in it yet, but hope to got some soon. If the same class of country continues, I shall not be surprised if the contractors finish their 50 feet in another week, as they are making great progress now. The prospecting tunnel the late Mr. Vaugban started we have driven over 60 feet, aud have not ent the main lode yet. As far as I can judge by the sound from the winze, we are not more than 4 or 5 feet, and I believe will be nearly at the bottom of the No. 2 winze ; and I certainly advise the directors to test the reef at that level before they sink a winze to the low level, provided there is no gold got in tho low level. If reports are anything to go by, the reef is payable where I shall get it.
